Brands

Purpose

The Brands module maintains the list of brands — manufacturers or retail names — offered on the article record. It is a simple reference list: a brand is nothing more than a name, then reused throughout the catalogue.

The brand is the second classification axis of an article, alongside its family: the family says what type of article it is, the brand says who makes it.

Who can access this module?

The module is visible to accounts holding the Technical data right, and to every account flagged as an administrator.

Access

  • Menu: Technical data → Brands
  • Address: /marques
  • Screen title: Marques

The brand list

The top bar holds ☰ side menu, 🏠 home, the name of the signed-in account, the language selector and the account menu. This screen has no search field: it displays the complete list of the workspace's brands, on a single page.

The table has only two columns:

ColumnContents
MarqueThe brand name.
Action✏️ Edit and 🗑️ Delete.

Clicking a row highlights it; clicking again clears the selection.

Creating a brand

  1. Click the ➕ button at the top left of the table. The Ajouter une nouvelle marque window opens.
  2. Enter the Nom de la marque.
  3. Click Enregistrer.

The green message « Marque créée avec succès » confirms the save, the window closes and the list reloads.

If nothing happens when you click Save

The name is required, but no message says so: when the field is empty, the Enregistrer button simply does nothing. Check that the field is filled in.

Editing a brand

  1. On the relevant row, click the green ✏️ Edit icon.
  2. The Modifier une marque window opens with the current name.
  3. Correct the name, then click Enregistrer.

The message « Marque modifiée avec succès » confirms the save.

Renaming updates the whole catalogue

Articles point to the brand itself, not to its label: renaming a brand therefore updates the display on every article that carries it, all at once. This is the right way to fix a typo.

Deleting a brand

  1. On the relevant row, click the red 🗑️ Delete icon.
  2. The confirmation prompt « Êtes-vous sûr de vouloir supprimer cette marque ? » appears.
  3. Choose Annuler to back out, or Supprimer to confirm.

The list reloads once the deletion has gone through.

A refused deletion stays silent

If the brand is still attached to articles, the server may refuse the deletion. In that case no message is shown and the row stays in the table. Always check afterwards that the brand has indeed disappeared from the list; if it is still there, it is still in use.

Before deleting

Open the Articles list and look at the Marque column to check that no reference uses it. If the brand is no longer current but older articles still carry it, it is better to keep it: it documents the history of the catalogue.

Known limitations in this version

  • The screen has no search field. Since the list is complete and unpaginated, use your browser's find function (Ctrl + F) to locate a brand in a long list.
  • The sort arrows in the column headers are decorative.
  • A failed deletion produces no message.
  • An empty name produces no message: the Enregistrer button simply does nothing.
