Credit notes
Purpose
A credit note corrects a sales invoice that has already been issued. It records that part — or all — of what was invoiced is not owed by the customer after all: a return of goods, an error in the amount, a discount granted after the fact, or a plain cancellation.
The credit note does not replace the invoice: it sits alongside it, and stays attached to the invoice it corrects.
Facture de vente ──► Facture d'avoir
(issued) (correction)
You do not open a credit note "from nothing": you have to start from the invoice to correct, in Sales invoices, via the ↩️ Avoir icon then the Nouveau button.
This screen is there to find the credit notes already issued, to edit them as long as they have not been invoiced, and to print them.
The module is visible to accounts holding the Financial management right.
Access
- Menu: Financial management → Credit notes
- Address:
/facture-avoir - Screen title: Factures d'avoirs
This module appears on the home page, in the Gestion financière section, but does not appear in the side menu. Go through the home page, or through the ↩️ Avoir icon on a sales invoice.
The credit note list
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
| Référence | The credit note number. |
| Date | The date of issue. |
| Client | The customer concerned. |
| Commercial | The salesperson in charge. |
| Etat | En instance, Confirmée, Facturée or Expédiée. |
| Valeur HT | The amount of the credit note excluding tax. |
| TVA | The VAT rate. |
| Action | ✏️ Editer and 🖨️ Imprimer. |
The list shows 50 credit notes per page, with the pagination controls.
It is a draft: it has been prepared but not confirmed. As long as it is in that state, it remains fully editable and has had no accounting effect.
Creating a credit note
- Open Sales invoices and find the invoice to correct.
- Click the orange ↩️ Avoir icon on the row.
- In the Factures d'avoir de la facture window, click Nouveau.
The Nouvelle facture d'avoir pour facture screen opens full page.
The header
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Référence | The credit note number, offered automatically. |
| Réf. BC client | Taken from the invoice. Not editable. |
| Référence facture | The invoice being corrected. Not editable. |
| Date | The date of the credit note. |
| Client | The customer, taken from the invoice. |
| Assujeti à la TVA | Tick box, taken from the customer. |
| Prix de gros | Tick box, taken from the customer. |
| Site | The site concerned. |
| Dépôt | The warehouse receiving the return, or Par défaut. |
Depending on the Numérotation des avoirs setting in Application configuration, the reference offered follows either the invoice series or a series of its own for credit notes. The number is calculated automatically when the screen opens.
The credit note lines
The table follows the structure of an invoice: Référence, Désignation, Quantité, Prix unitaire HT, Remise (%), TVA (%) — hidden if the customer is not liable to VAT —, Total HT and Actions.
A partial credit note only carries over the lines and quantities genuinely returned or corrected. To cancel an invoice in full, carry over all of its lines at the same quantities and the same prices.
As on an order, it is the Dépôt field that determines where the goods come back into stock. Check it before invoicing the credit note.
The buttons
| Button | When it appears | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Facturer | On a credit note in En instance | Confirms the credit note and produces its effects. |
| Enregistrer | On a credit note already confirmed, not yet reopened | Saves the changes. |
| Fermer | Depending on the context | Leaves the screen without saving. |
This is the step that commits the credit note: the goods come back into stock and the correction takes effect. As for an invoice, there is no way back from the interface.
Before invoicing, read back: the lines carried over, the quantities, the prices and the warehouse of return.
Editing a credit note
On the row concerned, click the green ✏️ Editer icon: the Modifier facture d'avoir screen, followed by the number, opens.
Unlike sales invoices — where only the header can be edited — a credit note opens for full editing as long as it has not been invoiced.
Printing a credit note
The 🖨️ Imprimer icon opens the document view, with the company header and logo defined in Company details.

Known limitations in this version
- The module does not appear in the side menu, only on the home page.
- No credit note can be created from this screen: you have to start from the source invoice.
- No deletion of a credit note is possible.
- The Etat column reuses the states of a sales order; it does not state whether the credit note has been refunded or set against a later invoice.
- No total is displayed, neither per page nor overall.
- The sort arrows in the headers are decorative.
