Bills of materials

Purpose

A bill of materials describes what an article is made of: the list of components needed to produce a given quantity of it, with, for each one, the quantity consumed and the scrap rate expected.

It is the starting point of all production: without a bill of materials, the application does not know which components to reserve or which requirements to raise when you launch a manufacturing order.

The module is visible to accounts holding the Production management right.

The bill of materials list

The top bar contains ☰ side menu, 🏠 home, the Filtrer… field, the name of the signed-in account, the language selector and the account menu.

The list shows 50 bills of materials per page, with the pagination controls.

Several bills of materials for the same article

An article may have several — a variant composition, a trial version, an economy range. The Principale column names the one that counts as the reference: that is the one picked by default at launch time.

Creating a bill of materials

Click the ➕ button at the top left of the table: the Ajouter nomenclature window opens.

The header

FieldRequiredDescription
Code✔The bill of materials code, unique in the workspace.
Désignation✔Its name.
Type de lancement—Par produit or Par matière première — see below.
Référence d'article✔The article produced.
Désignation de l'article✔Filled in automatically from the article record.
Principal—Tick box: this bill of materials is the reference one.
Type—The nature of the bill of materials.
Quantité à produire—The reference quantity the components relate to.
Quantité économique—The most cost-effective launch quantity.
Dépôt des encours—The warehouse where work in progress is stored.
Consommation encours—Tick box: work in progress is consumed by manufacturing.
The designation fills in by itself

Enter the Référence d'article then leave the field: the application looks the article up and fills in its designation. If the reference is unknown, the message "Article non trouvé" appears in red — correct it before going on.

The quantity to produce sets the scale of the components

Component quantities are understood for that quantity produced. A bill of materials drawn up for 100 units and another for 1 unit do not read the same way: set this value first, before entering the components.

The launch types

Launch typeMeaning
Par produitYou launch a quantity of finished product to obtain; the component requirements follow from it.
Par matière premièreYou start from a quantity of material available; the production obtained follows from it.

The bill of materials types

TypeUse
FabricationA genuine production composition, transformed in the workshop.
Commerciale composéA set sold as a whole, put together at the point of sale.
Commerciale composantAn article sold separately but coming from a set.
Article liéAn article attached to another, with no transformation.

The components

The Articles section, at the bottom of the window, lists the components. Click Ajouter to open the line form:

FieldDescription
RéférenceThe component reference. The designation fills in automatically.
DésignationThe component name.
QuantitéThe quantity consumed, for the quantity to produce given in the header.
Taux de rebut (%)The share of loss expected on this component, from 0 to 100.

Confirm the line with Ajouter, or give up with Annuler. Each row of the table can then be edited or deleted through its icons.

The scrap rate anticipates losses

It expresses the share of material lost in processing — offcuts, breakage, machine set-up. A rate of 5% on a component means you have to allow for 5% more than the theoretical quantity. Leave 0 if the loss is negligible.

Editing a bill of materials

On the row concerned, click the green ✏️ Editer icon: the Modifier nomenclature window opens with the header and the components already loaded.

Manufacturing orders in progress are not recalculated

Editing a bill of materials does not change the manufacturing orders already launched: those keep the composition in force when they were launched. The change will only apply to subsequent launches.

Known limitations in this version

  • No deletion is offered from the list: the Action column only contains the edit button, even though the function exists on the application side.
  • No success message confirms the save: the window simply closes.
  • Nothing prevents several bills of materials being marked as principal for the same article.
  • The composition is not multi-level on screen: a component that is itself manufactured points to its own bill of materials, with no tree-style overview.
  • No cost calculation is displayed from the components.
  • The sort arrows in the headers are decorative.
